The Torrent Duck (Merganetta armata) is a unique waterfowl native to the fast-flowing mountain streams of the Andes in South America. Known for its striking sexual dimorphism, males display bold black-and-white patterns with red bills, while females exhibit subtler orange and gray plumage.
Adapted for turbulent waters, they use strong legs, webbed feet, and long claws to navigate rocky streams. Torrent Ducks are skilled swimmers and divers, feeding primarily on aquatic invertebrates.
